Choosing Linens for Your Wedding

Let’s Talk Linens

Linens are one of the most underrated details in wedding décor—and one of the most transformative. Your fabric choice is the backdrop to your entire reception. It’s what your guests see the moment they walk in, what every centerpiece sits on, and what ties your color palette together from the head table to the last guest table in the room.

But with so many fabrics, colors, and lengths to choose from, it’s easy to feel stuck before you’ve even begun. This guide walks you through how to choose linens that match your season, your style, and your vision—so the details feel intentional and the whole room comes together.

1. Start With Your Season and Setting

Where and when you’re getting married shapes everything—including your linens.

For summer and warm-weather weddings, lean into light, airy fabrics that feel fresh and breathable. Our favorites for summer are Belize, Sahara, and Rustico—textures that read relaxed and elegant without weighing the table down.

For fall and winter weddings, you can go heavier and more luxurious. Fabrics like Velvet and Panama bring warmth, depth, and a sense of occasion that suits cooler months and candlelit rooms beautifully.

A quick tip on venue: An outdoor garden reception, a ballroom, and a tented event each carry light differently. Deep, rich tones photograph gorgeously indoors, while lighter fabrics keep an outdoor daytime celebration feeling open and bright. If you’re not sure how a color will read in your space, ask—our team sees these fabrics in real venues every week.

2. Match the Linen to Your Wedding Style

Your linens should feel like an extension of your overall aesthetic, not an afterthought.

  • Traditional or classic weddings: Satin, Shantung Supernova, or Lace bring timeless polish and a formal, romantic feel.
  • Modern or minimalist weddings: Our Velvet and Luxe Collections offer clean texture and understated drama that suit a contemporary palette.
  • Rustic or garden weddings: Natural, textured fabrics keep the mood soft and organic without feeling fussy.

Not sure which camp you fall into? Bring us your inspiration photos, your color palette, or even a screenshot from your florist. We can point you toward fabrics that bring the whole vision together.

3. Choose Your Drop Length

The length of your linen changes the entire feel of a table—and it’s a detail that’s easy to overlook.

  • Floor-length linens are the most formal and photograph beautifully. They hide table legs and anything stored underneath, which is why we recommend them for all tables – guest tables, head tables, cake tables, and buffet or display tables.
  • Mid-length (lap-length) linens work well for guest tables only when you want relaxed and casual feel. We rarely recommend lap-length unless outside.

When in doubt, floor-length reads as the more elevated, wedding-appropriate choice—especially for the tables in your photos.

4. Don’t Forget the Details

The little things are what make a room feel finished. As you plan, don’t overlook:

  • Napkins: A folded napkin at every place setting is a small touch with a big visual payoff. Coordinate or contrast with your table linen for added depth.
  • Table runners and overlays: A simple way to layer texture, introduce a second color, or add a pattern without committing to it across the whole table.
  • Statement tables: Your head table, sweetheart table, and cake table are the most-photographed surfaces of the night. Consider giving them a special linen that sets them apart from the guest tables.

5. A Few Practical Tips Before You Book

  • Order a swatch or visit the showroom. Colors and textures look different in person than on a screen—especially whites, ivories, and anything with a sheen. Seeing the fabric before you commit is always worth it.
  • Count your linens carefully. You’ll need one for every guest table, plus your specialty tables (head, cake, gift, guestbook, escort, sweetheart) and every catering and display table. These add up quickly, so it helps to map out your floor plan first.
  • Reserve early. Popular wedding fabrics and colors book quickly during peak season. The earlier you reserve, the more likely you’ll get exactly what you envisioned.
